Image
The Calling of Wele wa Kasawa As the big orange sun slowly sunk down the village of Makhele, it splashed it rays on the southern reaches of the Great Mountain of Masaaba. Slowly but steadily walked Wekuke, an elder and diviner from the clan of  Baala . Behind him, a huge crowd following him continued to build up. Disturbed by awful dreams, his soul had seen what had for long troubled the village. Wekuke was headed to a particular homestead down the path to mwifubukho. He was an Omulakusi, and for sure, this evening; his wits had directed to tackle the old woman who was responsible for increased infant deaths in the village. Human resilience

Image
It is only when we shift our focus on the ‘good’ of a seemingly rough situation, can we actually do something useful. If there is one thing that I learned from the deepest level of my heart and from my recent trip to Kenya, it is this ancient Bukusu phrase burusia lumuli lulala . It reminded me of the stories my grandmother used to tell us, about lighting one little candle  to spread light in the dark. A few weeks back, I was in a beautiful resort near the charming city of Nairobi, enjoying an authentic luhyas meal Ugali and chisaka. Just a few hundred kilometres away, in mulolongo, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale struck and we felt the dreaded tremors. Instantly, the entire 500-room hotel, which was in full occupancy, was evacuated as a precaution. Hundreds of us sat quietly on the open lawns, calling our loved ones and informing them that we’re safe. As time went by, we heard about the devastation. Naturally, we were shaken to the core. And then,...

SOCIAL AND EQUALITY TO ALL

SOCIAL AND EQUALITY TO ALL
My main agenda is adopting a Gramscian theoretical framework, the five parts of this volume focus on the various ways in which the political is discursively and materially realized in its dialogic co-constructions within the media, the economy, culture and identity, affect, and education. We focus at examining the power instantiations of sociolinguistic and semiotic practices in society from a variety of critical perspectives, this blog focus at how applied political linguists globally is responding to, and challenge, current discourses of issues such as militarism, nationalism, Islamophobia, sexism, racism and the free market, and suggests future directions. No peace, no unity, no coexistence hence all becomes vanity...! It's why the world is oval.
