current politics in uganda

Image
Museveni rose to power through the barrel of the gun and on top of a tank. That was more than thirty years ago, long before more than eighty per cent of Ugandans living today were born. He rose to power proclaiming himself a member of a "new breed of African leaders." He repeatedly criticized other African leaders on the grounds that they were dictators who "clang to power" and could only relinquish power through death. He asserted that his only interest was to obliterate dictatorship from Ugandan politics--which had been introduced into Uganda by Obote I, Idi Amin, Yusuf Lule, Godfrey Binaisa, Paul Muwanga, Obote II, and Tito Okelo. More than thirty years later, he has entrenched his name in the history of Uganda as the biggest dictator of them all. Secondly, Museveni rose to power proclaiming that he was a Marxist. At the University of Dar es Salasm, where he studied political science at the undergraduate level, he wrote a paper based on Frantz Fanon...

KAGAME on SGR: UHURU and RUTO conned poor Kenyans, the project is not worth the billions

Image
Rwandan President Paul Kagame has poured cold water on Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), calling it “a big sham and a rip-off.” Speaking at the sidelines of an international seminar at Kigali, Kagame said it was “extremely disturbing” that Kenya’s ruling Jubilee Regime would escalate the costs of the SGR to astronomical levels so as to fleece Kenyan taxpayers of their sweat “for the benefit of a few people at th e top.” “They are now trying to excite Kenyans with the refurbished trains that weres used in China in 1950s, running on diesel engines. Terrible!” Kagame said. Tanzania’s SGR is four times longer than Kenya’s but only two times as expensive. Rwanda and Uganda recently shunned the Kenyan SGR, choosing instead to connect their countries to a railway line running from the Tanzanian port of Tanga through to Kigali and then up to the Ugandan capital, Kampala. High level corruption being perpetrated by Kenyan top officials, leading to inflated costs, was mainly blamed for the ...

The western media preferred to refer him as a tyrant, a dictator, a human rights abuser whose regime “ brought Zimbabwe to its knees”. This article is inspired by the teaching of Nigerian writer  Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie  who has warned us of the danger of ...

Youth activism beyond borders

Image
Youth activism beyond borders Odongo wekesa Africa is a youthful population, statistics show that the population of youth and children in Africa is rising. African youth are also among the most disadvantaged in the world. This ranges from economic refugees in Europe all in a bid to try and survive , to communities ravaged by the negative impacts of HIV and Aids to countries getting destroyed by election related conflicts. Conflict which increasing in the continent also affects young people more than any other age bracket. Additionally, In Sub-Saharan Africa, 3 in 5 of the total unemployed are youth (ILO 2006) and on average 72 percent of the youth population live with less than US$2 a day. Africa is also home to between seven to eight million illegal immigrants in the European Union. SOCIAL AND EQUALITY TO ALL

SOCIAL AND EQUALITY TO ALL
My main agenda is adopting a Gramscian theoretical framework, the five parts of this volume focus on the various ways in which the political is discursively and materially realized in its dialogic co-constructions within the media, the economy, culture and identity, affect, and education. We focus at examining the power instantiations of sociolinguistic and semiotic practices in society from a variety of critical perspectives, this blog focus at how applied political linguists globally is responding to, and challenge, current discourses of issues such as militarism, nationalism, Islamophobia, sexism, racism and the free market, and suggests future directions. No peace, no unity, no coexistence hence all becomes vanity...! It's why the world is oval.
